India and Bangla together can produce a counter narrative of religious extremism

New Delhi: Indo-Islamic Heritage Centre organized an International Webinar on ‘Role of Civil Society in Strengthening India-Bangladesh Relations’. The Webinar was addressed by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sajjad Alam Rizvi (Presidency University Kolkata) from India and Muhammad Iqbal Hasan, Assistant Professor, University of Information Technology and Science from Bangladesh.

Throwing light on India-Bangladesh relations, Professor Muhammad Iqbal Hasan said that the relations between India and Bangladesh are not of today, but since 1971, these relations are at every level. He further said that civil society has played an important role in strengthening it.

Talking about the issues between the two countries, he said that some issues between the two countries have been going on for decades, such as the issue of border security and water. While some issues that have already been resolved, for example the border issue that was resolved in 2016.

He said that there is a need to further strengthen the relations between India and Bangladesh and in this is necessary to strengthen people-to-people relations as well as relations between the institutions. He said that both India and Bangladesh together can find a solution to religious extremism.

Analyzing the current scenario of relations between India and Bangladesh, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sajjad Alam Rizvi said that relations between the two countries are good, but to make it more civil society needs to play an important role, especially Mainly in the media sector.

He suggest to create an academic forum for exchange of ideas and experiences. The webinar was conducted by Muhammad Zeeshan Ashrafi research Fellow at IIHC.
