Prof Moini was a professor at the Centre of Advanced Study, Department of History, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, author of many books. his main thrust area is Islamic Culture, and Sufism, especially in the Indian Sub-continent.He had unearthed hundreds of rare documents related to the Shrine of Ajmer, and on the basis of these and other contemporary sources of Medieval Indian History, had presented several research papers at the various National (30) and International (25) Seminars/Conferences, in India and abroad as well. Many of these were later published in the reputed journals and books, well-received, responded to, cited, and quoted, by the eminent academician and scholars of Sufism and history. This had prompted him to publish some of these articles in the form of a book, entitled “The Chishti Shrine of Ajmer, Pirs, Pilgrims and Practices”, from Jaipur, 2004 (Revised edition in Press). The book contains a preface by the reputed scholar on Sufism, Professor Bruce B. Lawrence of Duke University, Durham, U.S.A., and also includes two very important articles, “The Hindus and Dargah of Ajmer, 1658-1858”; and “A Critique of P.M. Currie’s The Shrine and Cult of Muin-al-Din Chishti of Ajmer”, an Oxford D.Phil. (O.U.P. 1989)
